“Diva, I have finally chosen the type of tile for my kitchen. The color and texture are extraordinary with my existing features, but I have a problem. How do I decide what Wall Tile Pattern to put them in? How do I know what will look best? I thought this project would allow me to be creative and fun. But I’m just not feeling it. What should I do Diva?”
Okay, you’ve got your type of tile picked out (yay!). . . now you just need to decide on wall tile patterns, right? Well, I can’t tell you what’s right for you and your kitchen/space. But I can explain how you can find it yourself with your own needs in mind!
First go out and find all the brochures, websites and design catalogs you can get your hands on. Then sit down and look through them carefully. They will help you visualize what is possible. Magazines and do-it-yourself magazines are also helpful. This will help you start thinking about your perfect pattern for your perfect space.
Now that you’ve got some ideas you’re ready to bring a piece (or pieces!) of the tile you like home and play with it. Try tile on the diagonal for a different, more dramatic look. What about the cobblestone pattern? How about adding a border? Try the border in the center. Do you like the way the space is divided up? If not try it near the top, then near the bottom. My point is you won’t know what you like until you try it. “But Diva, what if I can’t bring the tiles home?” Well then now it’s time to get creative!
Get a piece of paper and sketch out different scenarios. You can use graph paper to help you keep scale and make those little squares and rectangles easier to draw! Want something more life size? Make a template of your tiles, and move them about like the real thing. This option is great for seeing how a particular design works on a wall. Make several templates of each tile. Then tape them to the wall to further create wall tile pattern you are shooting for. This way you get to see what the actual pattern looks like on your wall. That and nd it’s easier to move around. Just remember to take a step back and look at the whole picture!
There are so many possibilities out there that choosing can be overwhelming. Don’t allow this to overwhelm you, this project can actually be a lot fun if you stay positive. You just have to remember to take it one step at a time and do things to help get your creative juices flowing. If you feel like you are hitting a brick wall, go look at some more magazines ore review more relevant websites. When you find something you like, even if you don’t think it will work in your space, take your templates and emulate it on your wall. Maybe that exact pattern won’t work, but maybe you can play with it creatively to make it work for you and your space! Just keep working with it, you’ll get your tile pattern figured out.
